Netflix is Increasing Prices for Blu-ray Disc Rentals
Effective immediately for new Blu-ray subcribers, Netflix will be increasing their monthly rates by as much as 23% depending on which plan you have. Changes for ‘current‘ plan holders will not become effective until or shortly after April 27, 2009.
Netflix Blu-ray costs are on the rise.
Jessie Becker, VP of Marketing at Netflix claims the price change is a result of their ever increasing Blu-ray library and growing subscriber base. He also attributes some of the blame to the added cost of Blu-ray discs compared to regular DVDs which can be a difference of up to 30%.
With the growing popularity of digital distribution, the death of HD-DVD and consumer’s seemingly slow adoption rate of Blu-ray players, one has to question whether this will be one more nail in the coffin for High Definition discs as we know it.
